Board Member Role & Description
South Pacific Islander Organization is seeking board members. This is a great opportunity for people interested in gaining nonprofit board experience in a safe, collaborative and highly productive environment. This is a remote, unpaid volunteer role.
Join a nonprofit focused on supporting and promoting Pacific Islanders (Polynesians, Micronesians and Melanesians) through leadership development, cultural awareness and community partnerships. We are building a nonprofit led by Pacific Islanders and allies, for Pacific Islanders.
Qualifications
Passion for empowering Pacific Islanders and marginalized communities
Collaborative and highly efficient work style
Highly preferred: Expertise in fundraising, accounting and/or nonprofit management
Responsibilities
Attend quarterly board meetings via video chat
Actively work on one or more of the following committees:
Development Committee: Develops and leads fundraising efforts; oversees marketing and outreach efforts.
Finance Committee: Establishes and manages financial systems; develops budgets, monitors finances and implements accounting controls.
Governance Committee: Handles internal board management and affairs including but not limited to electing officers, finding new board members, organizing the annual board retreat, ensuring board engagement, organizing board development and facilitating conflict resolution.
Serve a minimum of 1 board term (2 years)
Expect to serve an average of 5-10 hours per month
(Optional) Attend annual board retreat
